Cyst Removal in Newcastle

Cyst Removal

If you are looking for cyst removal then our specialist Dermatologists are able to provide you with sound advice and excellent operating skills.

Cyst removal is a straightforward surgical procedure that can be carried out on the scalp, head, face or anywhere. Cyst removal is carried out while you are awake using local anaesthetic injections.

Cyst removal generally takes between 20 to 45 minutes. We always advise booking a consulatation with our dermatologists or your doctor, prior to any mole removal.

Cyst Removal Consultation

The Procedure

A cyst removal consultation is an opportunity to discuss the procedure in detail with the Dermatologist who is going to be carrying out your procedure. A cyst removal consultation is required if you have a large cyst, multiple cysts or a complex cyst, if the cyst has become inflamed or infected or if the cyst is in a prominent facial area.

A cyst removal consultation will also allow the doctor to establish that the lesion is indeed a cyst. Other types of skin lesion can mimic a cyst including lipomas, lymph nodes and skin tumours, therefore a consultation is always advised.

Cyst Removal FAQ's

During a cyst removal, the doctor / dermatologist will mark and numb the area around the bump. You’ll get a few injections that may slightly sting, but that’s the worst part. After that, you won’t feel the procedure.

Most of the time, cysts do not need to be removed because they usually aren’t harmful to your health. However, sometimes, cysts can grow and cause discomfort and pain. Depending on where the cyst is located, it can also cause embarrassment as well. This is generally either a personal preference or health related.

Some cysts are cancerous and early treatment is vital. If left untreated, benign cysts can cause serious complications including: Infection – the cyst fills with bacteria and pus, and becomes an abscess. If the abscess bursts inside the body, there is a risk of blood poisoning (septicaemia).

Cysts can remain stable or they may steadily grow. Sometimes they will become inflamed or suddenly break open (rupture). This poses a risk for infection.

Large cysts (>5 to 10 cm) are more likely to require surgical removal compared with smaller cysts. However, a large size does not predict whether a cyst is cancerous. If the cyst appears suspicious for cancer (based on tests) or if you have risk factors for ovarian cancer.

You can usually leave a cyst alone if it doesn’t cause discomfort or cosmetic problems. If you seek treatment, talk with your doctor or dermatologist about these options: Injection. This treatment involves injecting the cyst with a medicine that reduces swelling and inflammation.

After the removal of your cyst, you can expect a complete recovery period of about two to four weeks. The actual healing time is based on the type of your cyst, your health, and how it was removed. But because the procedure is only minimally invasive, you’ll be able to return home on the same day.

Simply contact our team who will book your consultation, the dermatologist can then review your cyst, and provide the options available to you. Call us on 0191 447 0730.
